“The federal government cannot account for $25 billion it spent in 2003. That's billion with a "b." Federal auditors know that $25 billion was spent by someone, somewhere, on something, but don't know who spent it, where it was spent or on what it was spent. ***That amount is more than the total federal taxes paid by all of the residents in each of 28 states.*** It's enough to fund the entire Department of Justice budget.”Riedl also notes that mention of the loss is “buried in the Department of the Treasury’s 2003 Financial Report of the United States Government [in] a short section titled “Unreconciled Transactions Affecting the Change in Net Position.”

Missouri Highway patrol troopers say a cement truck ran a stop sign at Richland Pkwy. & Walker hitting the motorcycle. Anthony Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene. He had just bought his motorcycle Monday. He is survived by 2 children, one of them born just last week. The driver of the cement truck was ticketed for running the stop sign. He was not hurt.

The article in the Weekly Standard can be found here for the former post.
LET'S GET RID OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
"Pamela R. Winnick discusses science teaching in a recent issue of Weekly Standard. One survey found that a whopping 12% of graduating U.S. seniors were "proficient" in science. Global rankings place our seniors 19th among 21 surveyed countries."
And you wonder why American companies are sending jobs overseas? Eighteen countries are doing a better job of educating thier youth....that's why. America used to be #1, numero uno. What happened? Public schools is what happened.

On CBS News today:
"A student pilot and his instructor were released without charges
late Wednesday after causing thousands of people to be evacuated from
the White House and the Capitol building in a terrorism scare earlier
in the day. The two men's small Cessna strayed into restricted
airspace over Washington during the lunch hour, coming within five
kilometres of the seat of the U.S. government."
On the one hand, I suppose it's actually nice that American politicians
now soil themselves every time someone breaks wind within 50 miles of
DC. On the other hand, we probably should start docking their pay for
the time wasted on the theatrics they put over, as if they were in
anything close to as much danger as the average infantryman in
Baghdad faces on a daily basis. (Words of another, but I agree 100%).
